Cabourgseaside holiday town 20 mins walk over footbridge which crosses the Dives  estuary and along the promenade from Port Guillaume—casino, crazy golf, indoor swimming pool, restaurants, cafes, cinema, , weekly markets daily in season—local produce

Beaches linking Port Guillaume and Cabourg are clean, safe and sandy, supervised by lifeguards, and offer numerous activities in clearly marked zones for safety including sand yachting, volleyball and sailing and other water sports plus organized children’s clubs for 2 to 16 year olds. Outskirts of Cabourg—horse-riding, tennis, golf course  Go-Karting (fantastic fun!), walking/biking Sailing school (in season).

Travel east from Port Guillaume , through Houlgate, Villers s. Mer, Trouville and chic Deauville , all worth a visit, to Honfleur—on the Seine estuary, for a seafood lunch, (La Pele-Mele is a  favourite of ours! ) This picturesque old fishing port, recognisable by its tall, narrow houses which hug the port, still  draws artists, inspired by Monet and Boudin ; Boudin Museum houses some original Monet and Boudin paintings; see the modern artists at work.    The  wooden church here is beautiful—take a quiet look inside.

Dives—Delightful mediaeval market town 10 mins on foot from Port Guillaume. William the Conqueror Village—courtyard formerly a staging- post for travellers, now houses artists' and craftsmen’s studios. Several superb restaurants. Our favourite is ’L’Ecurie.  Bustling Saturday market in Les Halles—smaller Tuesday markets. Cinema. Church, founded 1067.

Café du Marche—great  coffee  - just sit and absorb  the atmosphere .  2 Chocolatiers, 2 Patisseries, we recommend the fantastic local butcher too….. Discover it all for yourselves!

Caen—(Ferry port Ouistreham)—follow the  A13 SW inland to the region’s prosperous capital for chic shopping and fine food.  Historic sites– William the Conqueror’s Castle and twin Romanesque abbeys; his remains are entombed in the Abbey aux Hommes.

Bayeux—Bayeux Tapestry of course and Memorial Museum of The Battle of Normandy.  First French town to be liberated. Commonwealth Cemetery, Cathedral.

D-Day Landing Beaches—travel west from Port Guillaume following the coast road past  Pegasus Bridge. Pay your respects at the vast D-Day Landing Beaches;  Landings museum at Arromanches, coastal batteries at Longues sur Mer and Merville-Franceville,  Gold Beach at Ver sur Mer.  American Cemetery at  Colleville sur Mer and Omaha Beach Memorial at Saint Laurent sur Mer.

Plus...William the Conqueror’s Castle at Falaise. Local cheeses to try—visit their namesakes; Camembert, Pont l’Eveque and Livarot.  Lisieux, home of Ste Theresa (second most popular pilgrimage after Lourdes). Monet’s Giverny north of  Paris and Disneyland Paris are all accessible.
